After the long winter we've just had, some helpful hints for community boards and board member friends who are not yet Star Green customers.
With the excessive snowfall we have had this past season, combined with the extended growing warm season of last fall, our lawns and plants will be in greater need of lawn fertilization and feeding of landscape plants. We must remember to use extreme caution come early spring not to overly stimulate plant lushness and growth with excessive fertilization treatments. Early spring fertilization followed by lush growth, and then a cold snap and snow fall can result in weakened plants and fungus problems to the turf. We would recommend a half rate application of fertilizer only after what is perceived to be last snow fall. Follow this with a second half rate application a few weeks later.
It is also imperative to remember that many companies who rely on spring fertilization and weed control will be looking to get income flowing in quickly. Please don't fall for these tactics. We see time and time again, every spring, companies who put their wallet before results, applying pesticides in an untimely manner to increase cash flow. Just remember, mother nature does not go by a calendar. Soil temp, air temp, and pest growth should be the only thing that dictates a treatment. If you need more advice or information, please feel free to contact us and we would be more than happy to help you in making decisions.

With spring upon us, Just a friendly tip to homeowners.. Many of the lawn care companies will want to treat your lawn on their time table.
Remember , the need for nutrients in your lawn will depend on soil temps, not the calender.
By treating to soon or to late will mean all the difference in the condition of your lawn.
with spring beginning on the cold side with below normal temps, all weed control will be prolonged..
Fertilizer applications should be held off as well.. to much nitrogen in the soil will promote certain fungus and not benefit the plants as they are still in dormant stage at this point.
Today I watched as one of the national lawn care chains applied fert and weed control to a few lawns, I felt bad for the home owners who were just ripped off by people who know nothing of plant care only bill writing.
If you find yourself in need of tips or help with your lawn, please feel free to contact us and see if we can help you to have the beautiful lawn you have always wanted while saving money as well..

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy We at Star Green have been giving back to our community .. We are removing down trees, fixing fences, repairing homes, cleaning down branches and other such repairs. We are also giving deep discounts on the same type of work for our reg customers.. We feel that during these hard times it is a sin the way others are gouging prices because people are in desperate situations.. Please go out and help others if you can.
